Margaret S. Hancock

April 21, 1934 — April 29, 2025

Erie

Margaret S. Hancock, Margie to some and Peg to others, a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and cherished friend, passed away on Tuesday, April 29,2025. She was born April 21, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA; the daughter of the late Wilbert Snyder and Margaret (Weidner) Snyder.

Margie's mother told her she could not get married until she was 21. Honoring her mother's directive, she promptly married John (Jack) Hancock two days after her 21st birthday on April 23,1955. Together, they started their family in Pittsburgh until John's career with the Pennsylvania Game Commission relocated them to Clinton County where together they made their home in Lock Haven, PA, raising five children.

Peg was a homemaker and excellent seamstress, and her sewing talents were sought by many. In addition to sewing, Peg enjoyed spending time with her dear friends, taking daily walks, backyard bird watching, card playing, puzzles, and traveling. Peg sometimes liked to sing while working around the house but do not be fooled, try as she might, Peg could not carry a tune. Her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. When you look out your window and see that little bird it may just be Peg stopping by to say hello.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John B. Hancock, and siblings Wilbert Snyder, Regis Snyder, Marion Audley, Gerard Snyder, Thomas Snyder, and Jerome Snyder.

She is survived by her children: John R. Hancock (Tasha) of Pittsburgh, PA, Regis T. Hancock (Karen) of Maize, KS, Janice Skolnick (Bruce) of Erie, PA, Margaret Sutherland (Bob) of Boalsburg, PA, and Catherine Lanie (Mike) of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren Anneke Mikulski, Benjamin Hancock, Stephanie Hancock, Hilary Hillard, Colin Sutherland, Kyle Sutherland, Emily Lanie, and Andy Lanie; great grandchildren Weston, Reva, Arcadia, Caden, Siler, Amelia, Henry, and Archie; and two sisters, Joan Lippold and Charlotte Hilderhoff, as well as many nieces and nephews.
