Louise Dietrich Schulze, age 96 of Erie, passed away on Saturday September 24th at UPMC Hamot. She was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on August 13, 1926, a daughter of the late Melvin and Mae Devoll Dietrich.

Louise attended Claymont High School in Wilmington, DE, and was a graduate of the University of Delaware. She taught Elementary school in Delaware for nine years and was involved in the USO in Wilmington where she met her husband, Fred. Louise was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, leading Sunday school and bible studies. She was a charter member of the Church of the Cross and a Hamot Aid Volunteer. In her later years Louise formed a Neuropathy Support Group which provided hope and guidance for many who suffered from this disease. She enjoyed making greeting cards by hand but eventually learned how to make them on a computer. Playing bridge was also a favorite pastime. She will be remembered for her courage in living with numerous health conditions, her wonderful sense of humor and her warm and generous spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Frederick W. Schulze in 2011 and a brother, Charles Dietrich in 1991.

She is survived by her children, Jean Murphy and her daughter Meghan, of Seattle, Wash; John Schulze, his wife Caroline Scibetta, John’s son Noah, of Erie and Caroline’s children, Charlotte, Deane, Briggs and Grace; her twin sister, Lucille Peterson of Florida; a nephew, Richard; two nieces, Libby and Margo; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Dietrich of Maine.
