Erie

Lois J. Anderson Fobes, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village. She was born on December 9, 1937, in Erie, PA, the beloved daughter of the late John F. and Thelma L. (Carlson) Anderson.

Lois grew up in Erie and graduated from McDowell High School with the Class of 1955. She went on to build a life filled with hard work, dedication, and deep love for her family and friends. For many years, she managed the office at Les Fobes Interiors, retiring in 2001. Earlier in her career, she worked as a legal secretary for District Attorney Herb Johnson and the law firm of Evans, Johnson, Scarpitti and Bernard. She also worked for Kelly Girls, where her exceptional typing skills helped countless students and authors bring their work to life.

Faith and community were at the heart of Lois’s life. She was a devoted member of Luther Memorial Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, belonged to the Debra Circle, and volunteered with the Bereavement Committee, always offering comfort and kindness to others.

Lois had a special talent for making everyone feel at home. She loved to cook and was known for her delicious pumpkin bread, which became a treasured treat among family and friends. She found joy in needlepoint and cross-stitching, often gifting her beautiful creations to those she loved.

More than anything, Lois cherished her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and her warmth and gentle spirit will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her dear son, Christopher A. Fobes, and her brothers-in-law, Thomas Turnbull and David Paterson.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Leslie G. Fobes; her daughter, Amy Carlowski (Jim) of Moon Township, PA; and her cherished grandson, Garrett Carlowski, who brought her so much joy. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Marie Howe of Salisbury, NC; sisters-in-law Lucinda “Cindy” McGill (Mike) of Sacramento, CA, and Korinne Vanderpool (Peter) of Frisco, TX; brothers-in-law Jon Fobes (Susie) of Naples, FL, Craig Turnbull (Sue) of Morgantown, WV, and Bill Paterson (Sue) of Sacramento, CA; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
