Leah Knapp Mason, age 84, passed away Wednesday March 25, 2026 after an extended battle with breast cancer. Leah was born April 9th 1941, daughter to the late Walter and Alyce Mayes Knapp.
Leah was the center of her large extended family. As a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother, Leah poured her love into hosting family gatherings where she delighted everyone with her immense talent for cooking and baking. Additionally, Leah used her creative talents painting, drawing, knitting and sewing, of course this was done when she wasn’t reading.
Leah was born and raised in Meadville Pennsylvania, attending St Joseph’s Nursing College in Phoenix Arizona after graduating high school. Leah was a talented and caring nurse. Finding joy in expanding her education and experiences in healthcare. Leah enjoyed working in operating rooms, emergency departments and mental health facilities. She was particularly proud of her work at the Emory University hospital in Atlanta, Georgia where she worked in cutting edge cancer research and surgical treatments.
Leah returned to Allentown, Pennsylvania area after her marriage and the birth of her two children, then back to the Meadville and Erie areas to be closer to her family. She worked in several hospitals and healthcare settings, including The Visiting Nurses Association, Lake Erie Institute of Rehabilitation and St Mary’s Home until her partial retirement at 72, when she began working as a School Nurse for the Erie School district until her full retirement three years later at 75.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant sister Helen and her two oldest brothers Bill and Dave Knapp.
She is survived by her children Katie(Andrew) Semon of West Chester Pennsylvania and Mike(Kerry) Mason of Fairview; her grandchildren: Radek and Phelan Semon, Rachel and Eric Mason and Elise and Gage Marshall; her brother Dan Knapp and many, many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday April 11th from 10am until the Time Of Sharing Service at 11am at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc. West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street.
Private burial in Conneautville Cemetery later this year.
