Laura Vaughn

Laura G. Bertges Vaughn, age 97, of Millcreek, passed away Friday November 2, 2012 at UPMC Hamot.

Laura was born in Erie, on July 12, 1915, the daughter of the late George R. and Ursala Hazel Glover Bertges. She attended school in Kansas.

Mrs. Vaughn worked at General Electric for 42 years. She received many awards from GE for innovations in manufacturing and retired in 1978.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Circle, served on the alter guild and sang in the choir for many years. She also sang in the Erie Philharmonic Chorus.

Laura's family was very important to her and always came first. She loved the Lord and read her bible each day. She liked working in her yard, taking care of her home and watching baseball, especially the Braves and the Pirates.

She was preceded in death by her husband Louis R. Vaughn, an infant son, a son James C. Vaughn, a granddaughter Donna Angelotti Wurst and three brothers George Bertges and Harrison and Raymond Bernritter.

She is survived by a daughter Evelyn R. McKean; a daughter-in-law Marlene Vaughn (with whom she resided); seven grandchildren, Richard Angelotti and his wife Danita (Erie), James D. Vaughn and his wife Gloria (Stroudsburg, Pa.), Dana Vaughn and his wife Gigi (Cincinnati OH), Tamela Greeley and her husband Richard (New Enterprise Pa.), Robert L. Vaughn (Norwich NY), Matt Bucklin (Spring Hill FL) and Ted Bucklin (Erie). She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren, Mark, Bruce and Lia Angelotti; Logan and Lauren Greeley; Madison Vaughn; Sofia Vaughn; William Vaughn and Zoey Bucklin and a sister Juliann Russ.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.), on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 until the time of the service at 7:30pm with Reverend Kimberly Saylor of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will be private for the family in Erie Cemetery.
