Judith Ann Galvin

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Judith Ann Galvin (Langiewicz) at age 79. Our Lord called Judy (“JuJu”) home on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in Erie, Pennsylvania, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and complications from pneumonia.

Born on April 17, 1947, Judy grew up in Millcreek and graduated from McDowell High School in 1965. During high school, she met her sweetheart, Jim Galvin, at a Rainbow Gardens dance, and it was love at first sight. They married on August 6, 1966, at St. Julia’s Church in Erie.

True soulmates, Judy and Jim shared an unbreakable bond and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just five days before her passing. Their marriage beautifully embodied their promise to support one another “in sickness and in health.” During Judy’s final years, Jim became her devoted, around-the-clock caregiver, providing unwavering love, strength, and support. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their three children: Jamie, Mikie, and Shanon.

Judy’s strong work ethic and adaptability shaped a varied career. She worked for many years in floral at Giant Eagle, later as a Gibson Greeting Card merchandiser, and at Sarah Reed Children’s Center, where her love and compassion for children shone brightly.

Judy treasured time with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, trying her luck at BINGO, and especially golfing with Jim and their friends. She was always proud of her hole-in-one! Judy was an active member of the Women’s and Sunday Couples golf leagues at Live Oak Village in Ocala, Florida, where she and Jim spent six months each year.

Judy’s life was defined by her beautiful smile, devotion to family, generous heart, and love of sweets. To know Judy was to love her. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and special. Even strangers were often greeted with one of her favorite expressions, “You are very pretty,” or simply, “I love you.” She was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring cousin, cherished friend, and a source of unconditional love and encouragement to so many.

A devout Catholic, Judy’s generosity extended far beyond her family. She volunteered countless hours with Blessed Sacrament’s Food Pantry Outreach program, helping ensure families in need were cared for and fed. In one final selfless act, Judy donated her brain to medical research in hopes of advancing the understanding and treatment of the heartbreaking disease she endured.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, James “Jim” Galvin; her three beloved children, Jamie Galvin (Anne) of Odenton, Maryland, Mikie Galvin Parry (Jon) of Crownsville, Maryland, and Shanon Galvin Walker (Neale) of Ashland, Virginia; and six cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Alex, Erin, Cara, Harrison, and Ryan.

She is also survived by her close cousins Ashley Swift (Bobbi), Scott Swift (Sarah), Stacy Mattson (John), John Swift (Erica), Lisa Swift, and Michael Swift (Donna); many extended family members; and several nieces and nephews including Kerry Dougan, who lovingly helped care for Judy to give Jim some respite time. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Thurlow; dear friends Joe and Debbie Danner; many special neighbors, all the amazing waitresses at Pano’s; and loving friends in Ocala, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane “Honey” Gruver; her brother, James “Shorty” Langiewicz; her sister, Linda M. Thames; and her beloved Uncle Ashley and Aunt Noreen Swift.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Judy’s life will be held Friday, September 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Julia Catholic Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue, Erie, Pennsylvania. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life open house beginning after 5:00 p.m. at The Schoolhouse, 6610 W. Lake Rd, Fairview, PA 16415.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Judy’s honor.

Rest in peace, our sweet Judy. You are deeply loved, missed beyond measure, and forever cherished. We rejoice knowing you are in the presence of Jesus and dancing in Heaven. Your beautiful spirit will live on forever.
