John Joseph Szelencsik

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Joseph Szelencsik on April 16, 2026, at the age of 76, at St. Vincent Hospital.

John, who was born on June 17, 1949, in Germany, was taken from his biological parents at a young age and placed in the St. Joseph's Orphanage in Erie, Pennsylvania.

He was befriended by Lynne Crane and her family. Lynne assisted him in his recovery and supported him in becoming a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 13 years. A man of faith, John attended Lakeview Church of God and the Assembly of God. He spent the last many years of his life walking with the Lord and considered Lynne’s family as his own. Over the years, he was instrumental in the lives of Christine Foster, Jennifer Wiskeman, Amanda Shearer, and Jennifer McGarvie, and their children, taking pride in watching them grow up.

John worked as a janitor at GE Corporation for over 40 years. Outside of work, he found joy solving puzzles, word searches, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Friends are invited to the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm, for a Celebration of Life Service officiated by Pastor Mike Groves of Lakeview Church of God. His inurnment will then take place in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden, where he will rest alongside Lynne Crane.

He will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
