John "Jack" Regan

August 1, 1929 — July 5, 2023

John (Jack) Francis Regan, age 93, of McKean, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his son’s home, where he lived the past 1 ½ years. He was born in Pittsburgh, on August 1, 1929, a son of the late John and Rose Oldham Regan.

Jack served in the U.S. Army, and was a graduate of Slippery Rock University and Gannon University, where he obtained his Master’s Degree. After teaching in Michigan, he began his employment with the General McLane School District as a physical education teacher and coach of the McKean Turtles. McKean and Edinboro high schools consolidated in 1961, and became General McLane High School, from where he retired in 1988. At McKean High, Coach Regan coached basketball, baseball and boys volleyball. At General McLane, he created the cross country, and track programs. He was honored for these accomplishments by being selected to the inaugural class of GM’s Athletic Hall of Fame, and later, in 2012, was the recipient of the Lancer Legacy Award for Distinguished Service to General McLane Athletics. He was also a lifelong Pittsburgh fan! Aside from his love of all sports, Jack had an energy that enjoyed both physical and mental challenge, especially when it involved being outdoors. He drew the architectural plans for many local homes, and operated a seasonal construction company in the area for many years with his friend and colleague, Bill Leehan. After retirement, you would find him in his “barn” workshop, focused on projects for his home and family, and enjoying the art of whittling. In the last year of his life, a good day was when his caregivers, Tammy Saunders or Chris Reinelt, would prepare him for some time outside rolling about the deck or driveway enjoying the breeze and sunshine.

In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Dion Regan, and his oldest son, Michael J. Regan. His siblings were Bob, Bill, Don, Regis, and Patricia (Pat). He adored them all.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Steve) Bloom, of Hereford, Arizona, Nancy (Dave) Fowler, Patrick (Patty) Regan, Colleen (Jerry) Moran, and Daniel J. Regan, and daughter-in-law, Linda Regan, all of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are grandchildren Sean Regan, Kayla Regan, Janelle (Chanse) Frenette, Aubry (Jon) DeMarco, Daniel R. (Julia) Regan, Shannon Regan (Dave Rafle), Molly (Evan) Dillen, Aidan Regan, Jack (Kendra) Moran, Maureen (Daniel) Schuller, Peter Moran (Zachary Beach), Lucas and Adam Regan, as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Jack’s wishes, all services were private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Burton, Quinn, Scott Cremation & Funeral Service, Inc. Downtown, 602 West 10th Street, Erie.
