Joann Mangini Munch, age 92, of Fairview, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at UPMC Hamot.
She was born in Erie on April 12, 1933, a daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Alfier Mangini.
She graduated from Villa Maria High School in 1952. Joann and her husband Bill started and were co-owners and operators of Munch Fisheries in Fairview for many years. She was also a professional cook and after moving to Florida, she was employed by the Charlotte County School Board as a cafeteria cook for East Elementary School for 17 years and was a member of the Florida Food Service Association.
She mostly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was especially known for her famous lasagna and her fish fry’s. Joann was a member of Holy Cross Church. She enjoyed attending festivals, watching old time movies, collecting old time recipes, and watching cooking shows.
Joann loved to travel with her husband. She loved the theater and going to shows. She was Past President of the Fairview American Legion Post 742 Ladies Auxiliary, member of the 40/8 organization, past president of Unit 742 and District President of Erie, Crawford and Venango Counties of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also held the position of guidance counselor for Girls State sponsor by the American Legion Auxiliary. For many years, she was a volunteer for the Veterans Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Munch in 2018; a brother, Albert Mangini, three sisters: Mary Russo, Rose Shaw, and Perina George.
Joann is survived by her daughter: Janice M. Cozzens and her husband Jeff, three sons: William A. Munch (late Deloris Lucas), Richard A. Munch (late Janice Munch), Tom Munch and his wife Linda Repoff, all of Fairview. She is further survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and goddaughter, Laurie Bucho. Their family meant the world to her and her husband.
Family and friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. The funeral will take place at Holy Cross Church, 7100 W. Ridge Road, Fairview on Friday June 6, 2025. Calling hours will begin at 9:00am followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10amwith Rev. Tom Tyler as celebrant. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
