Joan Sammarco

Joan Carol Sammarco, 86, passed peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, September 15, 2022. Born in Erie November 5, 1935, Joan was one of twin daughters of Florence and Joseph Lyons.

Preceded in death by her two sisters, Jean and Patricia, one brother Raymond "Red", and her parents, she is survived by one son, David, of Waterford; one brother Patrick, of Edinboro; one sister, Winifred, of Florida, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Retired from the Erie School District after 35 years of service as a vocational instructor in cosmetology at Tech Memorial High School, she also sat on the State Board of Cosmetology and was Co-op Coordinator for the vocational program at Erie's Twin Tech. Joan was a feisty personality with a striking presence. She loved to read, manifested a droll sense of humor with deadpan delivery, and is remembered fondly by so many students as the ruler of "corridor 2A".

Special gratitude is expressed to in home health care provider, Robin Boyd, for her tireless devotion to Joan, to Walnut Creek care home in the final weeks, and to hospice of Erie.

Memorials may be made to either the A.N.N.A. Shelter or Orphan Angels Cat Sanctuary and Adoption Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to Quinn Funeral Home 728 West 9^th Street, Erie. There will be no calling hours, and burial will be private.
