Jim Foster

Jim Foster, age 50, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 23, 2024, after a short battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Erie, PA on April 1, 1974, the son of Jacqueline Shearer Foster.

He was a 1992 graduate of McDowell High School. He went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he proudly marched as a member of the IUP Marching Band, The Legend. His favorite memory was marching in the 1994 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Jim loved his family, especially his kids and grandkids. Music was a huge part of his life. He performed in several bands/groups over the years, most recently with the North Coast Brass Company, where he played baritone. He played trombone from the age of 9 and enjoyed singing karaoke with his buddies. He also loved taking his motorcycle out for a spin as often as he could. Jim was a very proud US Army veteran, having served 3 years active and 4+ years Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Jeannette Shearer.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Donna (Kuhn) Foster; children, Austin (Danielle) and Brianna; grandchildren, Sylas and Sophie, and a third grandbaby due in October; brother, Derrick (Seana) McDonald; nephews Greyson McDonald and Tyler Kuhn; niece, Alexandria Beals; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Thursday from 4:00pm until the time of funeral services at 7:00pm with military honors. Burial will be Friday at 10:00am at Girard Cemetery. 

Jim’s family is deeply grateful to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff involved in his care, especially those at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and VNA Hospice of Erie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or VNA Hospice of Erie.
