Janet McDougle Alberts

Janet McDougle Alberts, of Michigan, passed away on Jan. 5, 2026. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in the house at 459 West Sixth Street that her grandfather built which is now the Erie Community Foundation.

Janet was always the epitome of beauty, elegance and class. She grew up enjoying Lake Erie and sailing. She was baptized at the Church of the Covenant and participated in the choir and social groups. Jan graduated from Purdue University and enjoyed her time in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After college she moved to Illinois and spent most of her adult life in Northbrook, Illinois. She retired at the age of 77 from working in the designer dress department of Neiman Marcus on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Upon retiring she delighted in spending time with her daughter Nanette Cortese and Nanette’s late husband Mark Cortese.

She is survived by her daughter, Nanette Cortese and her sisters, Martha McDougle Keys and Pataline McDougle Wynne (John Wynne) and her niece, nephew and great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday April 10th at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th St. Private burial in Erie Cemetery.
