James S. Lee

James Sherman Lee was born on June 24, 1932, in Virginia to the late Cecil and Hazel Lee. Raised with strong values of faith, hard work, and service, James carried those principles throughout his life.

As a young man, James served his country in the United States Navy, demonstrating the quiet strength, discipline, and patriotism that would remain hallmarks of his character.

Following his honorable discharge, James settled in Newark, New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Wilson. They married and built a life rooted in faith, commitment, and unconditional love. Together, they welcomed their only son, Sherman Lee, affectionately known as “Junior.”

James had a lifelong passion for sports, particularly basketball and football. A devoted New York Knicks fan, he spent many seasons attending games at Madison Square Garden. His enthusiasm for football was equally strong, and he had the remarkable opportunity to attend more than ten Super Bowl games during his lifetime. These experiences brought him great joy and became part of the many stories and memories he treasured.

James will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness. He valued family, friendship, hard work, and being present for those he loved.

After a distinguished career in the service industry, James retired from Newark Liberty International Airport, where he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.

On November 1, 2024, James peacefully answered God’s call and entered into eternal rest.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Hazel Lee, and his sister, Betty Ayers (Milton). Since his passing, his beloved niece, Cheryl Green, has also been called home to glory.
