James P. “Jim” “Jimbo” Meyer, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, after completing his life’s work. He was born on February 16, 1933, to the late Melvin S. and Virginia C. (Connor) Meyer.
A lifelong resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, Jim proudly served 8 years of active duty in the U.S. Army before continuing his military career in the Army Reserve in Erie, retiring as a Staff Sergeant (E-6). Whenever thanked for his service, he always humbly replied, “It was an honor to serve my country.” In his civilian life, he worked as a dedicated pressman for local print shops, most recently retiring from Action Printing.
To his children, Jim was a loving provider, mentor, friend, inspiration, and master teller of “dad jokes.” His work ethic was exemplary. He took immense joy in spending sunny afternoons fishing with his daughter, Heidi, and cherished a nine-year tradition of weekly Wednesday lunches at Yellow Jackets Café with his son, Greg.
An avid woodworker and woodturner, Jim was a longtime member of the Presque Isle Woodturners and the Erie Woodturners Guild. He was also a lifetime member of the Siebenbuerger Club and the Erie Clowns, where he, “Jimbo,” and his wife “Blossom,” brought smiles to local events through magic and balloon animals. Jim and Carol were members of the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard H. Meyer (Carol) of Rotonda West, FL and brother-in-law Ed Gunesch (Renee) of Sharon, PA.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Gunesch Elliott) Meyer; son, Greg Meyer Wigham (Teresa); daughter, Heidi Meyer Wigham (Sharon); stepsons, David Elliott and Donald Elliott (Tammy); and grandchildren, Nathan Wigham, Jillian Wigham, Katie Cagnoli, Tadd Elliott, Cortney Long, and Matt Elliott; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends are asked to remember Jim with a smile in their hearts. At the family’s request, there will be no calling hours, and burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillman Cancer Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc.
