James Raymond Jones Jr, age 78 passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026. He was born on June 23, 1947 in Erie to the late James Raymond Jones Sr. and Mary Huber Battenfield.
He graduated from East High School in 1967, then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Frank Knox. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for General Electric as an Operations Facilitator for over 47 years. James played hockey β Left Wing and Defense β for numerous teams including the Erie Lions Club, Gannon, Edinboro, the Erie Aces, Saskatoon Seeds and Erie Copperheads F.O.P. He was a member of St. George Church, a long time season ticket holder for the Erie Otters and loved his houseboat on Horseshoe Pond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, his twin, Joyce Bridges and Merrie Lynn Duda and brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Wolford and David Wolford.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly F. Wolford Jones; his daughters, Amy Leeson (Ryan) of VA and Julie Oborski (Dennis) of Erie; granddaughter, Courtney Oborski and grandson Colin Oborski; Sisters, Lisa Wolford and Robin Thomas (Jim) both of Erie and brother-in-law, Bill Wolford (Mary) of Bumpass, VA. Heβs further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA on Sunday April 19, 2026 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and are invited to a Funeral Service there on Monday April 20, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Brian Vossler officiating. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
