Jacqueline “Jackie” Margaret Schmidt, age 95, formerly of Valley Stream, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at West Lake Woods Assisted Living, Millcreek, PA. She was born in New York City on February 12, 1931, the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian Birkner Loveland. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Jamaica, NY, Class of 1949. Jackie married Walter J. Schmidt on September 25th, 1954 and together they enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 66 years. They enjoyed traveling together during the spring and summer, enjoying many cruises to the Caribbean and beyond and car trips throughout the eastern US.
Jackie worked for several years in the accounting department of Oxford Press in Manhattan. In 1995, she retired after working 25 years as a teacher’s aide in the Valley Stream Central School District. She enjoyed gardening, preparing family dinners especially for the holidays and was talented at crochet, having created many blankets, pillows and articles of clothing for family and friends. She was a long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Valley Stream and more recently at St. Patrick’s Church in Erie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 2021. She is survived by her son Walter E. Schmidt (Rosemarie) and daughter Jerilyn Schmidt Pascale (Peter), grandchildren Erica Pascale Greene (Matthew), Kevin Pascale, and Erich Schmidt and great-granddaughter Eleanor Greene.
Jackie’s family wishes to thank the staff at West Lake Wood Assisted Living and UPMC Family Hospice for their compassionate care in her final days.
Friends may call Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, 3801 West 26th Street, Millcreek, on Saturday July 11, 2026 at 9 AM until the time of the service at 10 AM. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Sr. Mary Pascal Food Pantry at St. Patrick’s Church, 130 East 4th Street, Erie, PA 16507.
