Howard "Chip" John Markley III

Howard John Markley III, lovingly nicknamed "Chip," unexpectedly passed in the comfort of his home on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the age of 63. 

He was born in Erie, PA, on August 15, 1962. Chip lived in Erie for most of his life, but he resided in Youngstown, Ohio, for several years as well. 

Chip is survived by sister Jann (Markley) Baldwin and her husband, Brian; sister Elizabeth "Beth" (Markley) Harmle and her husband, Tim; brother Tom Vogt and his wife, Amanda; sister Danielle (Vogt) Makynen and husband Bobby; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father, "Jack," AKA Howard John Markley Jr. of Youngstown, Ohio; mother, Judith E. Vogt of Erie, PA; stepmother, Shirley Markley; stepfather, Donald C. Vogt; & stepbrother, Patrick DiLuzio. 

Chip had a giving nature and generous heart. If you asked for it and he had it, it was yours. He donated to several charities whenever he could. 

He loved nature and wildlife. He was often seen in the neighborhood feeding squirrels, ducks, and birds. 

Chip had many different interests and would read about all of them. He was a quick study, spouting off facts that he learned from reading or documentaries. He loved classic cars, aircraft from different wars, and space. 

Chip, also, loved music. His all-time favorite band was Rush. A close second for him would have been Kiss. But he could be heard listening to a wide variety of genres. He just loved music, and it took him to a happy place. 

Private Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge. No services will be held, instead the family will be honoring his life with a private get-together.
