Harold “Andy” Hansen, 79, of Erie, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at UPMC Harrisburg.
Andy was born in Brockton, MA, October 29, 1945, the son of Wylie S. and Helen McQuiston Hansen.
He graduated from McDowell High School and then went to Erie Business Center working as a metal fabricator until retiring from Riley Power in Erie, PA. Andy served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 and volunteered as driver for the Disabled American Veterans for many years. Both Andy and his wife, Mary, were active members of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Prettyman in February of 1974. Andy served on the Usher team, Trustees, and Men’s Work Group. Andy loved his family; he and his wife Mary helped raise their niece, Suzanne. Andy loved the outdoors and especially spending time with his nephews, Andrew and Peter, at Presque Isle beach. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, flying kites, riding bikes, kayaking, building sandcastles, eating, and spending time there with them. He also enjoyed the German Club dinners twice a week with his best friend Sandy and all the Gannon Basketball games they attended.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice Hansen in 2025, his sister Diane Hansen Abernathy and brother, Gary Hansen.
Andy is survived by his two nieces: Suzanne DiFurio and her husband Gabriel of Baltimore, MD and their children, Andrew and Peter DiFurio; and Lisa Voshell and her husband of Elizabethtown, KY and their children Shane and Sierra Voshell; his nephew, Eric and family of FL. ; two sister-in-laws: Kathleen Tennison, of Tampa FL, and Julie Prettyman Callahan of Cleveland, OH and Wildwood, FL. He is further survived by several great nephews and one great niece.
Private arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie . A celebration of life and inurnment will take place in Whispering Pines Cremation Gardens, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA 16510 on September 6th, 2025 at 11 AM.
