Harald Aamodt (né Olsen), 79, passed away on March 17, 2026, in Corry, Pennsylvania from cancer. He was a long-time resident of Erie having relocated there from Germany for his job in 1989 bringing his wife and two children. His profession in sales led to his working for Cummins, GE, Argo International, Erie Aviation Inc., and Logistics Plus.

Born on April 11, 1947, in Oslo, Norway, Harald was raised by his mother, Hjørdis. His parents divorced a few years after WWII where his father, Captain Ivar Olsen, served in the Norwegian Merchant Fleet. His mother instilled in him an appreciation for the arts at an early age as she would sneak him in to watch performances and films at the theater where she worked, giving him the chance to see things he would not have seen otherwise. She also nurtured his intellectual abilities and worked hard to enroll him in top school programs as a child because she believed in the value of a good education.

After getting his degree in business, he traveled the world, gaining life, and work, experience. Some of that time was spent as an intern for a large insurance company on America’s east coast and another part working as a DJ in a European hotel. Then he met his future wife, Liv, at his birthday party where the pair of artistic polyglots hit it off. Within a couple of years, they married and set off on a life together moving across the Atlantic several times and between several countries, including Belgium where they worked for NATO, Greece, Germany, and the United States where both of their children were born.

Harald was known for his intellect, quick wit, sense of humor – and terrible jokes. He loved music, with blues, jazz, rock, and even opera as some of his favorite genres. He also had a passion for films, photography, as well as the visual and performing arts. A prolific photographer, he was fond of using a 1969 Nikon F series camera gifted to him by his big brother Øivind, which he later taught his daughter how to use. His, and his wife’s, 50-plus-year hobby has resulted in countless boxes filled with photographs, dozens of meticulously framed pictures, bundles of curated photo albums, and stacks of carousel trays holding slides affectionately put together to tell stories about his and his family’s life.

He is survived by his wife Liv (married 53 years); his daughter, Nina and her husband Nick; his nieces and nephews: Trine, Lars, Petter, Karin, and Elaine, and their families living in Norway, Scotland, England, and Australia; as well as other extended family members and countless friends around the world. He is preceded in death by his son, Espen (2008); his grandnephew, Diderik (2011); his nephew, Andrew (2018); his sister-in-law, Målfrid, better known as Vesla (2015), and his two brothers: Øivind (2014) and Dagfinn (2020).

A memorial service is not yet planned. If you would like to make a donation to honor his memory, please consider supporting a non-profit working in animal care, homeless services, or aid groups supporting refugees. These were some of the causes that he cared about most.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA 16511.
