Hadley Henderson Jones, born December 8, 1935, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 21, 2025, after a long life marked by dedication, curiosity, and a spirit uniquely his own. He was the son of the late Francis Mae Jones McGinnis and Ralph Edson Jones.
Hadley grew up in Greenville and graduated from Penn High School. An Eagle Scout, he embraced the values of self-reliance, discipline, and perseverance from an early age—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown University, a field in which he would build a long and varied career. Hadley also served in the United States Navy.
He met his future wife, Barbara, at Conneaut Lake Park. Following their marriage, they lived in several locations before settling in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1972. He worked for several Erie-area companies, including GE, Hammermill, Zurn Industries, and Copes Vulcan, where he applied his sharp mind and strong opinions to every challenge he met.
A longtime member of Wayside Presbyterian Church, Hadley found community through both faith and shared interests. He enjoyed attending meetings of the Erie Computer Users Group, always eager to learn and tinker. He was a member of Tyrian/Commonwealth Lodge #362 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Erie and was Commandary of Knights Templar. He found joy in sailing whenever he had the chance, and he maintained a lifelong fascination with trains.
Known for his strong opinions and difficult nature at times, Hadley was a man who spoke his mind and held firmly to his beliefs. Those who knew him best recognized his complexity and his unwavering convictions.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, and their infant son, Michael Douglas.
Hadley is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Warner of West Springfield, PA; his brother, Theodore Jones (Gail) of Harborcreek, PA; his sister, Nancy Rumbarger of Newnan, GA; brothers-in-law Robert Leavy (Terri) of Erie, PA, Fred Leavy III (Rose) of Clearfield, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
