Gloria A. Butler, age 69, passed away on August 9, 2025, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born in Erie on February 10, 1956, to the late Raymond and Thelma Martin-Butler.
Gloria graduated from Academy High School in 1974. She attended Penn State Behrend for 1 year, and then attended Erie Business Center and earned her Associate’s Degree. She worked as a case worker for the Department of Public Welfare and retired roughly after 36 years of service. Gloria was the treasurer of PARSE and Central City Neighborhood Watch, as well as a Board Member on the Redevelopment Committee and “Love Your Block.”
She was active member of Second Baptist Church. Gloria participated in various ministries including: Church Secretary, Assistant Treasurer of the Sunday School, Food Bank Ministry, and Senior Ministry. She was a great supporter in donations to the church’s youth ministry.
Gloria enjoyed going to the casino and supporting high school basketball throughout the city. She would travel near and far with her late mother to support area schools. Gloria was also an original member of Darnella Durr’s exercise class.
In addition to her parents, Gloria is preceded in death by her sister, Rita Butler, her aunt Jessie Woodson, close cousins, Karen and Grant Lee, and Beverly and Richard Griffin.
Gloria is survived by her siblings, Michael, Marva, Marcia, and Marsha Butler (Los Angeles, CA); nephews, Jarrett and Rayshawn Butler; aunts, Helen Martin Porter (Milwaukee, WI) and Lorraine Lee; special friend, Rose Hart (Cleveland, OH), the Polk family, her church “pew buddies,” and numerous cousins, friends, and church family.

A graveside service will be held at Erie Cemetery, 2116 Chestnut St, Erie, PA 16502 on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
