Gladys Mae Crawford Smith

Gladys Mae Crawford Smith, age 93, of Millcreek, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at UPMC Hamot. She was born on September 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Harry and Edith Bell Crawford.

Gladys graduated from Cochranton High School and received her teaching degree from Edinboro University. After raising her children, she went back to school and received her nursing degree from Penn State Behrend College. She worked at Hamot Hospital for 15 years.

She was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church.

Gladys was an avid bowler and reader. She especially loved spending time with her family. She was a very loving and caring person who always found the bright side of life. Gladys was proud of everyone. She had a love of animals, especially her cat Kit Kat.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald L. Smith in 2016, a son, Eric Russell Smith in 1985 and a sister Shelby.

She is survived by four children, Jeffrey Alan Smith (Debbie) of Erie, Douglas Smith (Treza) of VA, Wendy Calhoun (Gary) of Medina, OH and Laurie Jo Hasbrouck, of Erie and ten grandchildren, Cara Smith, Stephanie Bradley (Jeremy), Jamie Smith, Aubrie O’Connell (Mike), Kaileigh Scott (Merle), Katelyn Calhoun, Christian Calhoun, Caroline Calhoun, Cory DiLoreto and Raeanne Hasbrouck; 6 great-grandchildren, Jebediah, Rozlyn, August, Ronan, Enoch and Wyatt, and a brother, Harold Crawford (Pat).

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc. West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, on Friday, July 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, July 19th at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1208 Asbury Road from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m, with Reverend James Bernhardt officiating.

Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie Humane Society, 2407 Zimmerly Rd, Erie, PA 16506.
