Gilda P. "Jill" Carr

July 3, 1927 — June 4, 2025

Erie

Gilda P. “Jill” Amatangelo Carr, 97, of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. Born on July 3, 1927 to the late Antonio and Giovina Ciotti Amatangelo, she lived a long and fulfilling life marked by resilience, love and laughter.

She worked in the dietary department of Sarah Reed Retirement Center for 11 years, retiring in 1992. She previously worked in the offices of General Electric. Jill was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed baking, reading and going to garage sales.

A gifted baker, she delighted in sharing her homemade treats with family and friends, filling every gathering with delicious, perfectly shaped cookies. Her talent for baking was matched only by her skill at cards and she often beat her family at their favorite games. Her front porch was a neighborhood gathering spot where laughter and stories were shared, and everyone felt welcome.

She was married to her beloved husband, William Carr, for 60 years until his passing in 2009. Together, they built a life full of love and countless jokes, raising their family with strong values and traditions. She was also preceded in death by her son, Raymond R. Carr, Sr.; her siser Priscilla Leone with whom she raised their families side by side; two brothers, Marco and Alfred Amatangelo; and her son-in-law, James Sherrange. She was also preceded in death by her niece Cathie Wojecki, whose love and help supported her throughout the years.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Annette Sherrange, of Erie, who selflessly cared for her in sickness and health. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason Sherrange and his son Bennett of Connecticut; Michela Mathur (Vishal) and their children Ria and Sariv of Massachusetts; Matthew Sherrange (Meghan Flood) of Connecticut; Zachary Carr and his children Wyatt, Kayorie, Ajah, Giovina; Rene Miller (Ron) and their son Mathias; Raymond Carr of North Carolina; her daughter-in-law, Norma Compton and brother-in-.law, Lester Carr. She also leaves behind several nieces, and nephews.

Gilda’s spirit and strength, deep-rooted faith in family and friends, and her unconditional love for us will be dearly missed.
