Gerald R. “Jerry” Garity age 88 of Girard passed away Friday August 1, 2025, at home peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was born in Girard on November 27, 1936, a son of the late Clyde and Alice Hudacky Garity.
Jerry attended Rice Avenue Union High School. He began working in construction right out of High School for Peters & Connors. He helped in building the current Girard High School. Jerry had a mind for business. He opened a Mini Golf course & Driving range. Sold snowmobiles and had a boat shop. He continued in construction and in May 1973 established Lake City Manufactured Housing, Inc, where he was president for 52 years. Jerry also served in the Army reserves.
At a young age Jerry had a talent for bowling. He traveled and bowled in several leagues and tournaments. Scoring one of the first perfect 300 games in this area, earning him State and Local recognition. He also was the manager at Lake City Lanes for several years. Bowling was a talent that he passed on to his late son Geoffrey Garity.
In addition to bowling his hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating & snowmobiling. His greatest passion was golf. Jerry belonged to several golf clubs locally and in Florida. He was a force to be reckoned with on the Golf Course and liked to play competitively. He shared his love of golf with his family and many friends.
Jerry married Linda Louise Devereaux on April 30, 1960. They raised 3 children (Gina & Geoff who were twins and Lisa). His wife Linda passed on March 1, 2005, they would have been married for 45 years. Jerry loved his family deeply and would have done anything for them. He loved animals and had several beloved family dogs.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Interim Hospice Team and to the private home caregivers for their care and support.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Devereaux Garity in 2005; a daughter Gina L Garity in 2011 and a son Geoffrey G. Garity in 2023.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 16 years Marianne Karr Garity; a daughter Lisa Garity Carr and her husband Buddy of Girard; a brother Clyde “Joe” Garity; three sisters: Marie Golden; Thersea Gabler; Cheryl Andrews and her husband Jim; Step children: Jimmy Karr and his wife Betsy; Jody Siarkas and her husband John; Jill Karr Rogers; and Judi Karr Rinaldi Morris; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friend may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard, on Saturday August 9, 2025, from 11:00am until the time of a Prayer/Memorial service at Noon.
