Gayle L. (Carr) Wettekin (Gilligan)
Gayle L. (Carr) Wettekin, age 65, of Erie passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1960 in Erie the daughter of the late Gale Carr and Virginia Merritt.
A lifelong resident of Erie, she had worked as a Medical Secretary for both St. Vincent Health Center and Hamot Hospital. She ran the units like a tight ship and made great friends and memories over the years. Gayle touched the lives of so many people and would light up a room with her presence. She cared about everyone so much and loved with all of her heart everyone was always included. Gayle loved playing games, either cards, bingo, crossword puzzles, or the occasional gambling. For years she hosted card nights on the weekend and always made a spread of food she loved this! She loved football and her team was always the Raiders. She also enjoyed the sun, boating and tanning all summer. She loved the springtime watching the flowers bloom her and Richard always had a beautiful yard full of flowers that they planted together. Her greatest joy was spending time with the people she loved and following the activities of her children and grandchildren, she was always our biggest cheerleader!
Gayle is survived by her beloved husband, Richard B. Wettekin; a daughter, Jacqueline Wettekin, son-in-law Donald Nelson; a son, Kyle Wettekin and his fiancé Carrie Marinelli. She is the proud grandmother of Trace Nelson, Ava Wettekin, Concetta Mangini, Colton, Ellena, and Annamarie Doray. Also surviving is a brother, Eric Carr and two sisters; Cheryl Payne and Laura Loughner. Sister- in- laws, Louise Fahlen, Laurie Wettekin, Missy Morad(Bobby), Jennifer Mushrush(Patrick) and brother -in- laws Roger Wettekin(Tammy), John Frebourn, Brian, Charles and Stanley Rice; also many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly her family was her life.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc., Downtown, 602 W.10th St. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at which time there will be a reading of scripture and sharing of memories in honor of Gayle.
