Frances McCall, lovingly known to everyone as “Grandma Fran,” passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania. She was 76 years old.
Born on July 6, 1948, in Erie, Fran was the daughter of the late Pruitt and Willa May (Hobson) Watson. She attended Strong Vincent High School and later devoted her life to raising and loving her family as a homemaker.
Fran was the heart and glue of her family. She had a great sense of humor and could always take a joke—her kids and grandkids loved teasing her, and she gave it right back with love and laughter. Her door and her heart were always open to anyone in need of advice, a home-cooked meal, or just a good laugh.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Fred “Bugs” McCall, whom she deeply loved and missed every day; her grandson, Derrick McCall Jr.; her brothers, George and Douglas Watson; and her niece, Tracy “Dee Dee” Watson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Derrick McCall, Andre McCall (Laura), Carmen McCall (Kelly), Melissa McCall, and her special nephew who was like a son, Kevin Watson. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Tiara McCall Rogers (Ronnie), Cailon McCall, Jordan McCall (Casidy), Madison McCall, Dayvia Allen-McCall, Darnell McCall, Taja McCall, Jeremy McCall, Jarrod McCall, Ra’son Epps, Brandy Woodard and Tori Hughes. Fran was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
She is also survived by her sister, Paulette Myers (Charles “Chuckie”); her sister-in-law, Evelyn Watson; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her deeply.
While our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved Bugs and other family members she longed to see again.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street in Erie. Public viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
Her love, her laughter, and her legacy of family will live on in all who knew her.
“To know her was to love her.”
