Fannie Atkinson

Beloved Mother and Grandmother

Fannie Lee Johnson Atkinson, 79, of The Village at Luther Square and formerly of 454 East 19th Street, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 25, 2012.

She was born on June 23, 1933, in Houston, Mississippi, the daughter of the late William T. Johnson and Pearlie Mae Gardner Johnson.

She was the wife of the late Tommie Lee Atkinson.

She was a former employee of Holiday Inn, Hamot Hospital, St. Vincent's and Keystone Laundry. She lived in Erie for 62 years.

She is a member of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

She was always compassionate and loving when it came to helping others. She never turned anyone away and always had a safe place for others.

She was preceded in death by three children, daughter Karen Atkinson Williams, sons: David and Kenny Atkinson, a brother, William T. Johnson II, and a sister-in-law, Ollie L. Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons; William Hemphill and his wife LaShonda, Thomas, Tony and Ricky Atkinson and his wife Aline, all of Erie; four daughters, Shirley Butler and her husband Robert, Delores Pullium and her husband Al, Linda Howard and her husband Russell and Jeannette Atkinson of Erie; a sister, Minnie Knight of Erie and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend, Ruby Crockett. She was also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 1962 Buffalo Road, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Services will be there on Thursday at 11 am with Bishop Asa Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.

Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie, is in charge of the arrangements.

We would like to thank the Lutheran Home and their Nurses along with the Regional Home Health and Hospice Staff for the care given to our mother.
