Evelyn M. Sosey

Evelyn M. Sosey, age 99, of Erie, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Parkside at Glenwood surrounded by her family.  She was born in Erie on March 2, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie E. Wetterhuer-Weber.  Evelyn was 6 years old when her mother died and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Fredrick & Catherine Baron-Wetterhuer.

Evelyn graduated from Millcreek High School in 1942.  She worked at Bliley Electric & Bliley Mfg. during World War II, then at GE in purchasing, First National Bank and finally at Children’s Services as a phone operator, where she retired after 20 years.  Evelyn was a member of Zion’s Lutheran Church and its choir for many years.

Evelyn was devoted and dedicated to her family.  She enjoyed home gardening, travelling, spending time with her family and friends and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard F. Sosey, Sr; son, Richard F. Sosey, Jr; and her brothers, Colonel Richard G. Weber, Ret. and Joseph Weber.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Sosey Benson (Chuck); two granddaughters, Jennifer Zygai (Gerred) both of Erie and Stephanie Hankey (Jeff) of Kittanning, PA; and great grandson, Christopher Hankey.
