Elmer L. Zeigler, age 93, of Millcreek, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born in Tidioute, PA on February 21, 1932, a son to the late Lloyd and Mary (Ferry) Zeigler.
Elmer was a 1950 graduate of Millcreek High School. He joined the army in 1950 and served in the Korean War until 1953. He then went on to college, majoring in Engineering and graduated from Gannon University in 1957. He was an engineer for Erie High Frequency and retired from Spectrum Control after 25 years there. He was a lifelong member of Glenwood Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir for 65 years. He also played basketball for several years with the church league.
Elmer was a loving and devoted father; his family was his pride and joy. He was a man of great faith. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, basketball, softball, yardwork, making animals out of woodwork, playing cards, cornhole, and listening to country music.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean R. Zeigler; two sisters, Katherine Pohl Wisniewski and Diane Petri; three brothers, Floyd, Frannie, Gaylord, and Phil Zeigler; and a son in law, David B. Enstrom.
Elmer is survived by his five children, Howard “Chip” Zeigler (Vickie), of Albion, PA, Susan Enstrom, Sharon Arnold, Karen Zeigler, all of Erie, and Bradley Zeigler (Kimberly), of Waterford, PA; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as 1 great-great grandchild; two brothers, Gilbert Zeigler (Linda) and Raymond Zeigler (JoAnne). He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie on Thursday, September 25th from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. And are invited to attend a service on Friday at Glenwood Methodist Church, 2931 Myrtle St., Erie, PA 16508 at 11:00 AM. Private burial will take place in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glenwood Methodist Church.
