Ella McIntosh

Ella McIntosh (née Roberts), age 93, a resident of Naperville, IL, since 2021 and formerly of Erie, PA, and Downers Grove, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Alden Estates of Naperville. She was born on August 10, 1933, in Preston, MS.

Beloved wife of the late Virgil McIntosh, whom she married in October 1950 and with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his passing on

October 12, 2006. She was a loving mother to Virgil (the late Willie Pearl) McIntosh of Downers Grove, Lamar (Jerilynn) McIntosh of Mechanicsville, VA, and the late Patricia McIntosh of Erie, PA.

Ella was the devoted daughter of the late Ezell and Girtha (née Turner) Roberts. She was the dear sister of Annie Ruth (Shumpert) McIntosh, Jean (Sonny) Griffith, and the late Coral Gambill, whose late husband was Harry Gambill, as well as the late Ben (the late Guzzie) Roberts, Willie (Jerry) Roberts and E.G. (Louise) Roberts and a fond sister-in-law, cousin, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many.

Ella was the adored grandmother of Mario McIntosh, Aaron (Abigail Tracy) McIntosh, Patrick (Savannah) McIntosh, and Rodriguez (Lakesha) Lewis of Bellwood, IL; and cherished great-grandmother of Aria Lee McIntosh and Gianna Antonella McIntosh.

Ella was known for her generous spirit, warm heart, and love of family. As the oldest child, she became the family cook, creating meals and traditions that brought generations together. An avid cook, she took great pride in caring for those she loved. Ella also worked as a barber for many decades, building lasting relationships and becoming a familiar and trusted presence in her community.

Faith was an important part of Ella’s life. She was an active and devoted member of St. James AME Church.

Ella will be remembered for the love and care she gave so freely to her family, friends, church, and community. Her legacy will live on through all those whose lives she touched.

A visitation will be held Thursday, October 8, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.; and Friday, October 9, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., at St. James AME Church, 236 E. 11th St., Erie, PA. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00a.m. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 4523 Love Rd., Erie, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter.
