Elizabeth A. (Betty) Babbitt Latimer, 97, of Erie, passed away October 15, 2023. She was born May 25, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Ivan and Ella (Stack) Babbitt.
Betty volunteered as a teacher’s aide for 28 years at Cathedral Center School, for many years in the Blasco Library gift shop and was a member of the St. Jude the Apostle parish mailing committee. She and her husband, Bill, were also founding members of St. Jude the Apostle Church. Betty was a long-time season ticket holder for Gannon University basketball.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, William N. Latimer, Gannon University Accounting Professor for 34 years and her granddaughter, Virginia Latimer Clark in March 2002.
Betty is survived by her children; Susan Flanagan (Michael) of Germantown, MD; Michael Latimer (Katie) of Erie; Thomas Latimer (Dianne) of Erie; Patricia Gloekler (William) of Erie; Timothy Latimer (Julie) of Lake Forest, CA and Nancy Latimer (Stephen) of Squirrel Hill, PA and a sister Margaret (Peg) Freese (Thomas) of Newberry, OH. She further survived by 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Betty’s family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Manchester Commons for their loving care of Betty and her family.
Friends may call at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church,2801 W.6th St. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 9:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
