Diana Jean Thompson

Diana Jean Thompson (Weese), 77, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at UPMC Hamot Hospital. Born in Erie on August 8, 1949, she was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Hammond Weese and Fern Christina (Westover) Weese.

Diana was a 1968 graduate of Wattsburg High School, where her teachers fondly gave her the nickname “Weesey.” She was also known affectionately as “Dude,” “Mimi,” or “Grandma” by those who loved her, she spent her early years building a home and dedicating herself entirely to raising her children. Later in life, she entered the food service industry, working tirelessly across two jobs at Elby’s Big Boy and Old Country Buffet. More than just a dedicated employee, Diana became a beloved fixture at work, serving as a second mother, a trusted confidante, and a vital source of wisdom and support to generations of coworkers.

Throughout her life's journey, Diana lived in Tonawanda, New York, and McKean, Pennsylvania. She also lived for a time in San Antonio, Texas while her husband served in the United States Air Force. She later resided in Wattsburg, Pennsylvania, and then Phillipsville, Pennsylvania, until the passing of her beloved husband, Dana Frank Thompson in 1999, after which she returned to Erie. During her years in Erie, she shared a home with her daughter, Vonda, who was truly her best friend.

A woman of deep faith, Diana enjoyed Christian TV and movies and spent her time praying continuously for her family and the world. She enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren’s academic and athletic achievements. Diana carried fond, lifelong memories of her late brother, Jeffrey Robert Weese, whom she wanted deeply to be reunited with and is now joyfully with once again. She shared an enduring, close bond with her surviving sister, Pamela.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dana Frank Thompson; her parents; her brother, Jeffrey Robert Weese; her mother-in-law, Agnes (Applebee) Thompson; her father-in-law, Lawrence Thompson; her brother-in-law, Thomas Thompson; and a nephew, Ronald Thompson.

Diana’s legacy of love lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted sister, Pamela (Weese) Birtikidis, and brothers-in-law, Nick Birtikidis and John Ross Thompson (Ellen). She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Thompson) Phillips and Judy (Allen) Thompson. She was the loving mother of Trevor Thompson (Jennifer), Vonda Thompson, and Brandon Thompson (Michelle). She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Brianna, Isabel (fiancé Joseph Sala), Emma, Kylie, Brandon, and Michael, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, former coworkers, and friends who will miss her guidance and warmth deeply.
