Deborah W. Murphy

With profound sadness we announce the loss of Deborah W. Murphy on August 24, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Erie, PA, Deb was the daughter of the late Clair and Marion (Latimer) Wilson.

A proud graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Deb built an exceptional five-decade career in the financial services industry. She served as the Senior Vice President-Wealth Management with UBS Financial Services, where she became a trusted advisor to generations of families throughout the country. Known for integrity, professionalism, and genuine care, she formed lifelong relationships with clients who often became cherished friends. Her entrepreneurial spirit also showed through in her ownership of successful travel businesses.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Deb was a visionary civic leader whose influence can be found throughout Erie. She served in numerous leadership roles, including Board Chair of Hamot Medical Center, Hamot Health Foundation, YWCA of Erie, and the Erie County Historical Society. She was Chairman Emeritus of WQLN and Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, and the first woman elected as Chair of the Erie Community Foundation Board of Trustees. Deb was also one of the founding members of ECF’s Erie Women's Fund. In 2025, Deb and her husband, Doug, were recipients of the Edward C. Doll Community Service Award, recognizing their exceptional commitment to community service. Though her service earned many honors, recognition was never her motivation; she simply believed that when you could help others, you do.

One of Deb’s proudest accomplishments was The Douglas and Deborah Murphy Scholarship fund, providing educational opportunities for graduating seniors from Erie High School. She believed deeply in investing in the next generation and helping others pursue their dreams.

In addition to her significant achievements, Deb’s greatest pride and happiness was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished Nana. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and to them she was a steadfast cheerleader, trusted confidant, and source of unconditional love. Among the most meaningful gifts she and Doug provided were the annual trips planned with each grandchild. These experiences created lasting memories, shared adventures, and the priceless gift of their time and attention.

In addition to her parents, Deb was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Berarducci.

Deb is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Douglas Murphy; brother, Richard Wilson (Linda); sister, Nadeen Bartlett (Michael); loving children, Mark Murphy (Leah), Melinda Murphy (Reed Finley), and Ryan Murphy (April); cherished grandchildren, Nathan (Courtney), Parker (Emma), Caleb Tuszynski, Tatum Murphy, and Teagan Murphy; nieces, Carolee Biddle (Michael) and Christine Cattell (John) as well as extended family members.

Though her loss leaves an immeasurable void, Deb’s legacy will be carried forward by the family she adored, the organizations she strengthened, the opportunities she created, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.

Friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street, on September 1st from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life luncheon is planned for September 13th at 12:00 pm at the Kahkwa Club, 3300 Kahkwa Club Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Deb's memory to consider a memorial gift to The Erie Community Foundation’s Erie Women's Fund or The Douglas & Deborah Murphy Scholarship Fund. Throughout her life, Deb generously shared her time, talents, and resources in service to others. A gift made in her honor will continue the spirit of compassion, generosity, and opportunity which defined her remarkable life and legacy.
