David M. Cullen, 71, of Fairview, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026 in the presence of his children, siblings, and two special colleagues.
David was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 1, 1955, to the late Eileen V. and James W. Cullen. He was the sixth of eleven children in a lively and loving Irish-German family, where laughter was abundant and bonds ran deep. Growing up in such a close-knit household shaped David’s warm spirit, quick wit, and deep appreciation for family.
David was a graduate of Cathedral Prep High School in Erie, PA (1973) and John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio (1977). He later earned an MBA from Gannon University and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
David was a gifted entrepreneur who built several successful companies over the course of his career. He had a remarkable ability to recognize potential in others, bringing together and working alongside exceptional colleagues—from his early days at Heritage Trust Company to Evident Financial, the thriving financial planning and investment advisory firm he founded.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Marie Cullen (1977), and his brother, James D. Cullen (2018). He is lovingly remembered by his children, David Paul Cullen and his wife Kristen, and Erin Adams and her husband Nathan, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Tyler Cullen and Alaina Adams. Being a grandfather was one of David’s greatest joys.
David is also survived by his siblings: Kathleen M. Meola, Robert D. Cullen, Nancy M. Cullen, Doreen T. Rosenbaum and her husband William, Joseph T. Cullen and his wife Connie, Daniel T. Cullen and his wife Annette, Brian P. Cullen and his wife Ellie, Carol A. Hutzel and her husband, David and Rose J. Cullen (widow of James D. Cullen), and several nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. He is also survived by his former spouse, April A. Crossman and many friends who were like family.
Throughout his life, David carried with him the values of hard work, deep faith in God, kindness, quiet resilience, and gratitude in all circumstances. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, witty sense of humor, and the way he made those around him feel welcomed, valued and loved. David’s generosity was steady and understated, and his legacy will continue to have a ripple effect for years to come. We continue to discover the many quiet ways he showed support to others. God’s love shone through his life and drew people to him. His selflessness impressed that love on everyone he met.
David is deeply missed and forever cherished.
The family would like to thank the staff at Walnut Creek Nursing and Rehab, especially the staff in Unit 3 and physical therapy team, for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care given to David.
