Darcie Jeanne (Wetherbee) Vargo, age 84, of Erie passed away peacefully Monday, September 14, 2026 at home with her family at her side. She was born January 29, 1942 in Erie the daughter of the late Roy and Agnes (McGill) Wetherbee.

Darcie graduated from St. Ann’s grade school and Saint Benedict Academy. Following graduation, she got a job at Marine Bank and worked there for four years. Most recently she had worked as a personal caregiver.

In 1962 she married the love of her life, James “Jimmie” Vargo. She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence Park where she was a member of PAL, was an Altar Aid, and volunteered with the annual church’s garage sale. She was also a member of the Lawrence Park Garden Club since 2010 and enjoyed the good times and many memories with her “Girls Club,” which were 1959 graduates of St. Benedict. Darcie and Jim were also avid boaters, and lifelong members of the Commodore Perry Yacht Club

Besides her parents and husband Jim, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy “Butch” Wetherbee; sister-in-law, Lorraine Wetherbee; brothers-in-law Ronald and Robert Vargo; son-in-law Ray Carroll; and great-grandsons, Everett Bell and Atlas Gould.

Darcie is survived by her five children; Mark (Jennifer) Vargo, Ellen (Lou) Ferraro, Laurie (Robert ) Greiner, Jill (David) Bell, and Susan Carroll.

Also surviving is a sister, Judy (Dick) Babo; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Vargo and 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd. on Monday September 21, 2026 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Further visiting Tuesday at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 695 Smithson Ave. from 9:30 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Burial in Calvary cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
