Daniel Maloney, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2024. He was born in Erie on June 20, 1951 to the late Joseph E. Maloney and Mary Jobes Maloney.
Dan attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Cathedral Preparatory School, University of Detroit School of Architecture, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Gannon University. Following college, he used his considerable artistic and mechanical abilities as a finish carpenter. For several decades, Dan owned and operated two businesses in Erie, Maloney Residential Contracting and Homescan Inspection Services.
Dan was a voracious reader primarily of history and historical biographies. His favorite hobby was gardening. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and enjoyed playing golf. Dan’s easy smile, quick wit, and fun-loving nature were endearing. He was blessed with many friends and he cherished them all.
Dan is survived by Maura McLaughlin who shared his life for 34 years, his daughters, Abby Dunnigan (husband Brian), Maura Maloney (husband Eric Mrock), and his grandchildren, Jack and Evey Dunnigan. Four brothers survive Dan: Michael Maloney (Suzi), Joseph Maloney (Sue), Mark Maloney (Julie) and David Maloney (Steve Miller). Dan is further survived by eight nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Friends are invited to attend a reception in Dan’s memory on Friday, November 8, 2024 between the hours of 1:00pm and 4:00pm at the Erie Yacht Club, 1 Ravine Drive.
Memorials in Dan’s name may be made to UPMC Family Hospice of Erie, 1700 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16501.
