Daneen "Nana" Matthews

Daneen “Nana” Matthews, of Millcreek, finished her earthly journey on August 5th 2025 to be with her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.

Born on January 19, 1941 to parents William and Barbara (Naylor) Huttenstine in Pitcairn, PA, Daneen graduated with Honors from Turtle Creek High and later received an accounting degree. She lived much of her life in Monroeville and Trafford before moving to Erie to be near her grandchildren.

Daneen was a woman of many dimensions and lived a life nearly as colorful as the outfits she wore. She was an artist (mainly paint, silk screen, and photography) and an avid reader. She loved Agatha Christy, Dr. Seuss, the Pink Panther, and Woodstock. She was an adventurer and fondly recalled her cruise to Madagascar with her beloved brother Billy.

Daneen had an unwavering faith and maintained a positive outlook on life despite her decades long battle with MS. She was courageous, kind, and always had time for a good story. Even as her condition took a larger role in her life, she never felt alone. She often said she was blessed by God to have “special angels” walk through her door every day to care for her. A few of those special angels were her nurse, Michelle Timko, and caregivers Patricia “Trisha” Griffin, Annette Lewis and Shaima Hassan along with many others.

In addition to her parents, Daneen was predeceased in death by her brother William “Billy” Huttenstine. She is survived by her daughter Marion Matthews (Terry), son Marty Matthews (Lisa), beloved grandchildren Jack Matthews (Kayla) and Tara Matthews, and her cat Pip.

A brief service to celebrate her life will be held at Burton’s Funeral Home chapel (3801 West 26th Street) on Friday 8/15/25 at 6:00 PM.
