Catherine Ann Fabian, born in Erie, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1926, daughter of the late Herbert and Mabel Neeve. She died on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, at 100 years of age. Nan was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1944. After graduation she received a registered nursing degree from Saint Luke’s Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Nan was enrolled in a military nursing program during WWII. She attended Villa Marie College years later.
Nan’s life revolved around her marriage to Donald (Rookie) Fabian in 1946. She was a busy homemaker with three children, Judy, Gayle and Doug. Nan also worked part-time as a registered nurse. In her spare time, Nan was involved in Hospice of Metropolitan Erie. She also performed mission work for the Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sitka, Alaska and The Chosen Program in India. Nan attended Westminster Church and took on roles as elder, teacher and deacon. She always took pleasure in gardening, growing blueberries, reading and spending time with family. Her recollection of family history was remarkable, and she kept such history alive for others to learn.
Catherine was preceded in death by Donald, her husband of 68 years; her daughter, Judy Nestor and son in law John Nestor and grandson, Corey Smith. Nan’s three sisters and three brothers also died before her.
Nan is survived by her daughter, Gayle Smith; son, Doug Fabian (Linda). Nan has seven grandchildren, Jodi Askins (Todd), Tracy Johns (Jake), Carrie Bastow (Scott), Jeff Smith (Lesley), Bryan Smith (Sonja), Ben Fabian (Chris) and Emma Fabian (Erin), and six great grandchildren; Alexa and Julianna Askins, Kameron Bastow, Madison Smith, Kyla Smith and Rory Fabian-Heaney.
Nan was a resident of Manchester Commons for 12 years. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Manchester Commons for their care and meaningful community. The nurses and aides were a special addition to Nan’s daily life, and she made sure that she knew them all by name.
