- Boyd T. Hess Jr, of Waterford, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 25th, 2026. Boyd was born on June 8th, 1947. He was the sixth child born to Boyd Sr. and Vera Hess.
- He began his career at Fitting Lumber Co on Powell Ave, until its closure in 1996. He then continued his career at Contractor’s Service and Supply, until his retirement in 2013. His craftsmanship continued at home, making invaluable gifts for family and friends. On May 20th, 2009, Boyd received a Letter of Commendation from the Pennsylvania State Police, along with his brother Dale for their actions in assisting a distressed Pennsylvania State Trooper. He was a strong supporter of his community and especially enjoyed attending the local 4-H auctions and The Waterford Community Fair, where he showed his support. He was a social member of the St. Francis Ushers Club. He bowled with his brothers in the annual Brothers Bowling Association Tournament for 37 years. Boyd played softball for Hess’ Garage & Salvage with his brothers and cousins at Walmer’s baseball field in McKean. In his younger years you could find him at Eriez Speedway, which is where he would have his first date with Barb.
- His “happy place” was the Hess Family Hunting Camp. He truly enjoyed going there with his brothers, his nephews, great nephews, and all his camp buddies. He sat back in his corner watching all their shenanigans unfold and throwing a zinger at the most unexpected time.
- He married the love of his life on December 11th, 1971, Barbara L. Hess (Fratus). Together they had four children, Michelle Wiesen (Tom), Amy Brady (Robert), Bethany Hess (Jeff), and Boyd Hess III. Family was one of the greatest blessings in his life. He was proudly known as a grandpa to six grandchildren: Logan Brady, McKenna Pease (Isaac Hinkson), Lauren Wiesen (Kasey Seymour), Landon Brady, Boyd “Bo” Hess IV, and Madison Hess. He also shared a special bond with Brad Pease, whom he loved dearly and treated as a son.
- In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard "Willie" Hess, sister Brenda Garloch, brother-in-law, Dennis Mayer, Sr., his sister-in-law, Janet Hess. He leaves behind a large family that includes seven siblings: Edward (Joan) Hess, Evelyn Mayer, Ardell (Joann) Hess, Lloyd Hess, Florence (George) Wilkosz, Dale (Lori) Hess, and Arnold (Jeanette) Hess, brother-in-law Paul Garloch, brothers-in-laws Leroy and Patrick Fratus, and sisters-in-laws Tricia Kinem (Dave) and Christine Bowen, as well as several nieces and nephews that lovingly called him Uncle Junior. Boyd had a special bond with his nephew Dave Mayer that was truly one of a kind.
- Friends and family may call at Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie, PA 16506 on Thursday, October 1st from 2 PM until 4 PM and from 6 PM until 8 PM.
