Betty Dusicsko was just 7 weeks shy of her 94th birthday when she passed to her heavenly home on July 28, 2025, with hands held at her bedside by her loving RN-caregiver daughter, Cheryl, after a short illness.
She was born in Erie, PA on September 16, 1931, the daughter to her late parents Frank K. Ras (who started the first auto shop in Erie, Ras Auto Body) and Pearl Ras (Olsen). Also preceding her in death were siblings Edward Ras (and wife Mary) and Claire Terella (and husband Edward), as well as Betty’s husband of 48 years, Joseph (Joe) Dusicsko, Sr.
After graduating from East High School, Betty worked in the Technician Training School office where Joe first laid eyes on the love of his life who he married in 1951. Soon after, Joe, a bricklayer by trade, built Betty her dream home where they raised four children who survive with their families: Terry Dusicsko, married with children, Kelly, Ashley, Johnathan; Cheryl Hettman, married to Allen with sons, Erin (Mitzi) and Garrett; Debra Gibbs, married to Ronald with children, Jamie (Jeremy) and Brian (Krystal); and Joseph (Joe) Dusicsko, Jr., with children, Zachary (fiancé Kayla), Jessica, Steven (Casey), Logan (fiancé Jessica), and Breanna. A daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Becky) Hido, also survives.
As the children got older, Betty returned to work as a secretary at Lake City Borough, Diebold, Chivers Construction, and Automation Devices before retiring. During her long life, Betty cherished time spent with family most. She was greatly blessed by her 12 grandchildren (above) and 9 great-grandchildren: Landon, Ada, Madeline, Jackson, Addison, Lillian, Eva, Laney, and Isabella. She also enjoyed having three generations of nieces and nephews (including niece Donna Grimaldi who regularly sent hand-written letters over the past 2 ½ years that warmed Betty’s heart).
Betty, a woman of great faith, previously attended Holy Cross and St. Julia Catholic churches. In younger years she was an avid golfer with Joe and the Overlake Woman’s Golf League. She was a long-time member of the Fairview Garden Club. She enjoyed activities with good friends/close neighbors, traveling with daughter Cheryl, flower and vegetable gardening, reading mysteries, playing cards, and doing puzzles. Betty greatly loved feeding/watching the birds (especially hummingbirds) and watching sunsets over Lake Erie. Now as the sun has set on Betty’s beautiful earthly life she will be greatly missed by all.
Gratitude is expressed to the unselfish, compassionate women who assisted Betty as companions and support-caregivers during the last few years of her life: daughter-in-law Becky; Heidi, Lisa, Eva, and Marisa. You were her angels and now she is yours!
