Betsy H. Mitchell (Stone) of Erie passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at home. Betsy was born in Erie, on February 23, 1952, the daughter of the late Jack and Mary (Haller) Stone.

Betsy was raised in Erie and attended Harding Elementary, Gridley Junior High School, and graduated from Strong Vincent High School, class of 1970. After graduation Betsy worked at the Boston store in the West Erie Plaza for 7 years. She retired to start a family with her husband, Kevin.

Betsy had many passions in life, one being her family. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. They brought a smile to her face and filled her heart with joy and love.

Another passion of hers was fresh flowers. Her home and yard always had fresh flowers displayed throughout. Her love of flowers led her to an opportunity of a lifetime. Betsy was co-owner of A Floral Affair floral shop, located in Edinboro and Fairview, PA for 13 years. Betsy put her love for flowers and talent for creating beautiful arrangements and bouquets to bring joy to many people.

Betsy caught the traveling bug at a young age. She enjoyed seeing what our country and Canada had to offer by car, plane, or boat. She traveled from the East coast to the West Coast making stops along the way, such as at Disney World, Williamsburg, Hilton Head, Charleston, NYC, and Niagara Falls to name a few.

Betsy loved her hometown of Erie. She was known to take a ride around Presque Isle after stopping at Sara’s for a hot fudge sundae, going for rides looking for flowers, grabbing a bite to eat with the Dining Divas from high school, and her weekly dinners out with friends and family. She was always searching for the perfect hot turkey or roast beef sandwich, the juiciest burger with fried zucchini sticks or a delicious bowl of chicken and biscuits.

In addition to her parents, Betsy is preceded in death by her husband, Kevin Mitchell (whom she married on July 25, 1975), her in-laws Gerald and Geraldine Mitchell, her stepfathers, Edward Garloch and Richard Nichols, a good friend, Bonnie Grack, and her girls, Princess and Bella.

Betsy is survived by her son Kevin Mitchell, and her daughters, Katie Mitchell and Laura Gardner (Zach). Her four grandchildren, Alexis Parker, Maddy Hart, Aiden, and Emmalynn Gardner, also survive her. She is survived by her brother, John Stone (Sharon) and sister-in-law, Susan Frick (Robert) and nieces and nephews. Last but not least, her dear and long-time friend, Ruth Balough and her best friend for many decades, Patty Jones Shea, survive Betsy.

Arrangements are private and are being handled by Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Downtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betsy’s name to the Erie Humane Society or to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen.
