Bernard L. "Barney" McLaughlin

Bernard L. (Barney) McLaughlin, age 99, of Erie passed away Friday July 21, 2023 at the Sarah Reed Senior Living Center. He was born February 17, 1924 in Erie the son of the late Daniel and Bridget McLaughlin.

Bernard attended Sacred Heart grade school, Rosevelt Junior High School and graduated from Erie Tech High School. He served with the US Army as a Tech 5th grade engineer during WW II. Following the war, Barney worked for 28 years at American Meter and later retired from American Sterilizer (AMSCO) after 13 years.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, walking at the beach, dancing, biking, and travel. He was a member of American Legion Post 773 and the Elk’s Lodge 67.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two wives, Marion Clark and Beatrice Schaffer; four brothers, Daniel, John, James, and Edward McLaughlin and by three sisters, Catherine Habersack, Margaret McLaughlin, and Marian Kerr.

Bernard is survived by two daughters, Cathleen McGuire and her husband Paul of Erie and Colleen Senkalski and her husband Robert of Gainesville, GA. He is the proud grandfather of Kevin McGuire, Eric McGuire (Suanna), Sharon Senkalski (Josh Barna), and Seth Senkalski. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Blaze Senkalski, Rebecca and Emily McGuire and a sister-in-law, Marge McLaughlin of Maine,

Funeral services were private with entombment in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
