"Good morning, Erie."

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Dain Steinhagen, a beloved friend, radio personality, and cherished member of the Erie community. Barry passed away at his residence on June 17, 2026, just days after celebrating his 73rd birthday.

Born on June 11, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, Barry was the son of the late Robert J. and Barbara Baker Steinhagen. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration before beginning a career that would ultimately become his life's passion.

Barry entered the radio industry in Ohio during the 1970s, and in 1997 he moved to Erie with the intention of staying only a few years. Instead, he found a home and a community that embraced him. For decades, Barry was a familiar and trusted voice throughout the region as co-host of "Erie Talk in the Morning" on WJET/Jet Radio 1400 AM. His wit, strong opinions, and signature voice made him a fixture of local radio. Beyond the microphone, he remained active in radio sales and maintained the relationships and friendships he built throughout his career.

Barry's love of broadcasting was matched by his enthusiasm for racing. A devoted Formula One fan, he followed the sport passionately throughout his life and especially enjoyed Lexus racing.

During the summer months, Barry could often be found enjoying the many events that make Erie special—from neighborhood block parties and community festivals to local car cruise-ins. Whether listening to the classic sounds of the Studio 54 era, catching up with friends, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, Barry embraced everything that made Erie summers memorable. He was also a loyal supporter of Erie sports, regularly seen cheering on the Erie Otters and Erie SeaWolves.

Barry had a remarkable gift for turning acquaintances into friends and friends into family, a quality that defined much of his life in Erie. Though Barry's family was spread across the country, he created a family of his own through the friendships he cultivated, the colleagues he worked alongside, and the pets he cherished. His kindness, humor, and unmistakable voice left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his beloved cat, Preston.

He is survived by his brothers, Robert J. Steinhagen and his wife, Beverly, of Virginia, and Brett Steinhagen and his wife, Cheri, of Florida; his sister, Brynne Parrott, of Florida; and countless friends, coworkers, listeners, and fellow radio professionals who will miss him dearly.

Though his voice is now silent, the memories, laughter, and friendships he shared with Erie will endure for years to come.

Arrangements were entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Downtown, 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502.
