Barbara Anderson Mucciarone

Barbara Anderson Mucciarone passed away on Tuesday, Sept 8th at Cleveland Clinic after a brave fight.

She was born in Pittsburgh on May 16th, 1949, the third daughter to Fritz Albert and Dorothy Moffitt Anderson, on their anniversary.

In addition to her parents and loving sister, Janet Stetson, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years Michael Anthony Mucciarone and beloved son Kyle Anderson Mucciarone.

Barbara is survived by her loving and heartbroken children - daughter Libby Anderson Mucciarone of Millcreek and daughter and son-in-law Jenna Anderson and Justin Allen Salsberg of New Paltz, NY. She also leaves behind her sister Louisa Berry, nieces Shannon Bannister and Abby Stetson, nephews Nick and Robin Berry, and cousins across the country. In addition to her family, Barb will be missed by her dear friends, including the “Peeps,” Jayne Rusnica, and Carol Ann King.

Barbara graduated from North East High School in 1967, attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania studying math, and graduated from Erie Business Center with a degree in Computer Systems and Management Science, graduating cum laude. She built a successful career as a computer programmer in the 1970s in a male-dominated industry. She continued in this career until she began raising her children. Barb served the local community throughout her life, including as a Lamaze coach for the Childbirth Education Association (CEA), helping mothers welcome their children across Erie County, as a deacon at Fairview Presbyterian Church where she also wrote the Church’s monthly newsletter, fundraising for the Leukemia Society, supporting local participants within the Koinonia and Kairos community, and much more. Throughout the years, she devoted herself to her faith and family with a strong, caring heart.

Barb considered motherhood her greatest job and taught her kids countless important life lessons from how to fold a fitted sheet to how to move through the world with resilience, bravery, generosity, and a sense of humor. She was a bright, crafty, whip-smart, sarcastic, and gentle woman who was an avid reader, thoughtful writer, and prolific scrapbooker. She loved puzzles and games that challenged her brilliant mind, traveling with her husband and children, entertaining friends and family, cooking and baking, gardening, and decorating her home throughout the seasons. Despite great losses in her life, Mom deeply loved her family and friends with a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh - both of which will be cherished and missed forever.

Friends may call the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc. West Ridge at 3801 W. 26th St. in Erie on Monday, September 14 from 4 pm to 7 pm, and they are invited to attend a funeral service at Fairview Presbyterian Church, Avonia Road at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 15. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, where she and her husband, Michael Mucciarone, will be interred at the same time.
