Audrey Lois Treiber Hoover, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted nurse practitioner, passed away peacefully with her family June 16, 2026, in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Born on December 24, 1939, in Erie Pa and loved people of all ages and inspired children and adults to take care of others. She brought a comprehensive perspective and personal touch to healthcare and was committed to helping all!
A proud graduate of Academy High School in 1959, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Villa Maria College, proudly considering herself “A VILLA GIRL”. Further pursuing her passion for nursing and education, Audrey attained a Master's of Science in Nursing - Nurse Practitioners from Gannon University and became an esteemed member of Sigma Theta Tau, the honor society of nursing. She was a teacher of nurses and the first School Nurse Practitioner in the Erie area. She was the representative for PA State Nurses Association and was part of a nursing study. She gained employment at St. Vincent Hospital as a nurse and later went on to become an instructor teaching Pediatric nursing. She then became the school nurse at Iroquois School District for 25 years. As well as working at her hobby at Hamot Medical Center on 8 South for multiple years and taught school nursing at Gannon University. She truly gave of herself in all capacities! Having touched so many lives, some of her past students still sent her Christmas cards, which always brought a smile to her face. The cards meant the world to her and surprised her that she was remembered. She was eager to show visitors these cards.
Audrey met the love of her life, Bob, at the Home Drive-in when he popped out of her trunk; which is now the Sheetz on Peninsula Drive. She celebrated Sixty-two years of marriage before Bob’s death in 2023. Bob spent time traveling with Audrey, visiting grandbabies, camping in all fifty states, supporting the elderly by playing games of chance at Presque Isle Casino and various other casinos, inviting friends and family to pool parties and hosting holiday dinners at their West Lake Road home. She enjoyed watching Barbara Streisand movies and Robert Redford movies. She thoroughly enjoyed cheering on Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Buffalo in various sports. She enjoyed playing games like Sky Joe and Left Right Center, she hated playing Farkle.
She is survived by her two children, her son Timothy (Valerie) Hoover, her daughter, Andrea Gunns, both of Erie; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Randy), Alexandra Walker (Adam), Taylor Hoover (Mandy), Heather Gunns, and Noah Hoover; six great-grandchildren, Leland, Lane, Luke, Arlo, Oliver, Addie, and Aynsle and sister Carolyn Dillon.
Preceded in death by her father, Dr. Kenneth Theodore Treiber, mother Helen Elizabeth Treiber (Yeiser), husband, Robert Hoover, son-in-law, Mark Gunns, sisters, Nancy Dougherty, Dorothy Treiber and Cynthia Treiber and brothers, Kenneth Treiber and Dr. Theodore Treiber.
Words can not describe the sadness of not seeing our Mom face to face everyday. Our Mom gave us tough love when needed with a kind heart. God blessed us with her presence!
Together as a family we pray, Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace.
