Audrey Hettrick

November 1, 1932 — December 3, 2024

Carlisle

Audrey Hettrick, born on November 1, 1932 in Erie, PA, entered her heavenly home on December 3, 2024 after a remarkable journey.

Audrey will be most remembered for how she loved others, for she lived with her heart and her home wide open. She will be remembered for bringing hams to those who lost a loved one, taking in those who needed a place to live, and cooking meals (in her tiny kitchen) that could feed an army. No one will ever forget the blizzard that struck on Thanksgiving Day where she scratched her plans and made hamburger gravy for all the Meadowbrook milk delivery drivers so they could get the impossible job done! Her great love for others, her unshakeable faith and the special gift God gave her to encourage, inspire, and bring comfort to others will be forever remembered.

Audrey graduated from Academy High School in 1951. She was the Executive Secretary at Bucyrus Erie and later went on to work as the Office Secretary at St. John’ Lutheran Church.

Audrey had endless energy and lived a life of service. Everything she touched, she would eventually lead. She served as president of the PTA and her Academy High School Reunion Committee. At her beloved St. John’s Lutheran Church, she led the Kitchen Team, Soup Suppers, Ruth Guild, if it was happening at St. John’s she was part of it. She was a proud member of Koinonia and the impact of this ministry led her to become a lay worship leader where she joyfully filled in for pastors all over th Northwest Synod of the ELCA.

She now joins her parents Fritz and Frieda Bittner, her mother and father-in-law Joseph and Mary Hettrick, her husband Lou Hettrick, her daughter Linda Hettrick, her sister and brother-ìn-law, Anna and Lars (Curly) Christensen, and her brother Harry Bittner.

She is survived by daughter and son-in law Luanne and Pastor Bob Verno (Carlisle, PA), her sister-in-law Marilyn Bittner (Erie), her granddaughters, Jen (Gregg) Pfeffer (Erie) and Julie Verno (Mechanicsburg), her great-grandchildren Nena, Paige and Adler, and countless nieces and nephews.
