Arthur E. Cannavino

October 13, 1945 — February 28, 2025

Erie

Arthur E. Cannavino, age 79, of Erie passed away Friday, February 28, 2025 at AHN St. Vincent. He was born October 13, 1945 in Erie, the son of the late Arthur and Lucy (Martone) Cannavino.

Art was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and later attended the Zegarelli Brothers Styling classes at the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. He returned to Erie and practiced his craft for 45 years.

On October 8, 2018 Artie received a healthy kidney from a donor in Georgia as a result of his wife donating one of her kidneys to a recipient in Denver. The surgery was done at Allegheny General Hospital and was a success for the past seven years. Artie’s family would like to thank the Father/Son Kidney Specialist team of Dr. Richard Dreyfus and Dr. Darren Dreyfus who cared for Artie for 50 years and treated him like family. Also a special thanks to Dr. Brian Lang who was his family physician. Artie was also a great dancer and would have won Dancing with the Stars hands down.

Special thanks also goes to the seventh floor staff at AHN St. Vincent ,especially Chris Spaeder, who took excellent care of Artie, both mentally and physically during his last stay there before passing onto Heaven.

“God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered “Come with me” With tearful eyes we watched him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands for 45 years at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.”

Arthur is survived by his wife, Deborah (Chimenti) Cannavino; brothers Michael Cannavino and Frank Romeo; a nephew Michael Cannavino; a niece Patricia Lloyd (Donald); a sister-in-law Lydia Chimenti, and two brothers-in-law, Paul and Gregory Chimenti.

There will be no visitation and burial will be private.

A celebration of Artie’s life will be held in August at the Cannavino residence. Details to follow.
