Arlene Carol Sandelstein Auerbach, Cherished Wife, Mother and Mimi age 82 of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, in Shaker Heights, OH with her loving daughters at her side. Arlene was born on July 23, 1941, in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of the late Hyman and Gladys Auerbach.
The family relocated to Erie, PA where Arlene lived most of her life. Arlene and Gerald Sandelstein were married on August 12,1962 at Brith Sholom Synagogue. Arlene was a 1959 graduate of Academy High School. She enjoyed retail work and working along with Jerry as founders of Checks and Balances Computer Service business. Arlene also was an entrepreneur with their Subway Sandwich franchise. She was a very active member of Brith Sholom, where she had many roles on the board of directors, member of the woman’s club, and Arlene and her husband Jerry were chairmen of the young couples club. Arlene was very involved with the Academy High School Band Boosters since her three daughters were members of the band auxiliary. Arlene enjoyed boating and fishing with Jerry during the summer months. She also looked forward to her weekly mahjong and card games with her favorite group of lady friends and dinners out on Thursday’s. After retirement, she and Jerry started traveling. They enjoyed driving cross-country, Hawaii, Alaska, and cruises. Arlene continued her travels with her 3 daughters and their families, with never a dull moment!
In addition to her parents and husband Jerry, Arlene was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Louis Powers.
She’s survived by her three Daughters, Lauren Bensink and her husband Bob of Virginia Beach, VA, Marny Rodriguez and her husband Ted of Shrewsbury, MA, and Tammy Powers and her husband Lou of Shaker Heights, OH; seven grandchildren, Sara DiSanto (Ben), Nick Rodriguez (Anna), Rachel Bensink (partner Vee), Joshua Bensink (partner Eli), Aaron Bensink, Rebecca Powers and Jacob Powers; loving sister, Barbara Kleckner and husband Mark of South Euclid, OH. Arlene is further survived by two special nephews David Kleckner (Elizabeth), Todd Kleckner (Peggy), special niece Robin Reynolds (Jim) of Erie, along with several cousins and extended family in Cleveland.
Friends are invited to call on the family at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th St. Erie, PA on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Congregation Brith Sholom Cemetery, 2625 Asbury Road, Erie, PA.
