Alderic S. Nathal, age 96, of Erie, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Born in Erie on July 27, 1929, to Joseph DiNatale and Adelina (Jiuliante) Nathal, Alderic graduated from Strong Vincent High School. After working as a cook on a lake freighter in the merchant marines, Al served in the U.S. Army in France as a baker and traveled to several European countries.
After his military service, Al served his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker and worked for approximately 40 years at the American Sterilizer Company (AMSCO) before retiring in 1991. Al was active in his labor union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and served as its Recording Secretary for many years. He also served as a commentator at Sunday mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Al was an avid fan of the Strong Vincent Colonels basketball and football teams, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Throughout their 70-year marriage, Al and his wife, Joan, showed extraordinary generosity and love towards family members who needed their help.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Victor, Ralph, and David, and five sisters; Ventrina Fitzgerald, Coletta Ruef, Dolores Weber, Gloria Pilewskie, and Delphina Robaskiewicz.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family, including his wife of over 70 years, Marie (Joan); his sons, Andrew and Gary (David); his granddaughter, Josie; several cousins; and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home for their care.
