Aaron D. Wassell

Aaron D. Wassell, age 63, of Erie passed away Friday, July 7, 2023 at home. He was born August 22, 1959 in Erie the son of the late Alex and Shirley (Kephart) Wassell.

Aaron was a 1977 graduate of Academy High School and joined the Middletown Police Department, he later worked for the Royalton Police Department before returning to Erie to join their police department in 1995. Aaron retired from Erie PD in 2019 as a deputy chief. He also received the city’s Lifesaving Award from the mayor’s office for rescuing a family from a house fire. Aaron enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting, and spending quality time with his eleven grandchildren.

 He was a member of FOP Lodge 7, the Sunflower club, and South Erie Turners and was a devoted member of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Wassell.

Aaron is survived by his four children; Adam Wassell (Shelly), Shane Wassell, and the twins, Spencer Wassell and Samantha Wassell. He is the brother of Cal Wassell (Cindy) and Becky Verga, all of Erie. Along with his grandchildren, David, Tyler, Brady, Trenton, Teven, Austin, Carter, Jamison, Marcelo, Julian, and Adrian.

Friends are invited to call at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity, 251 East Front St. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8pm and are invited to attend Funeral Services there Thursday at 9:00 am. Burial will be in St. John the Divine Cemetery.
